Congratulations to Johna Hupfield, our annual Spirit of the Biosphere Award winner! Gichi-apiitendaagwad!
Johna is an educator, artist, mentor and mother, among many roles in our community. She teaches Indigenous Studies at Parry Sound High School and has been involved with the GBBR’s activities since 2008 as an active part of our Education Advisory Committee and Cultural Advisory Circle. Johna has been instrumental in teaching Indigenous culture, history, governance, art and Anishinaabemowin (language), as well as supporting key projects such as the annual student pow wow, the ‘Building Our Bridge’ book, and recently the Wiigwaas Jiimaan creation. Her leadership and commitment are a special part of our community, and we are very grateful to her. Chi-Miigwetch, Johna!
