Westwind Forest Stewardship Inc. has been a Biosphere Charter Member since 2012. A non-profit organization, Westwind’s purpose is ecologically and socially sustainable management of the publicly owned French-Severn Forest. They have a strong commitment to ensuring all forest users and values are considered through public consultation.
Westwind is certified through the international Forest Stewardship Council® which recognizes the French/Severn Forest as fulfilling all the requirements of a “Well Managed Forest”. Under its Sustainable Forest License, Westwind assumes responsibility for planning timber harvest, tree planting, tree marking, gathering and assessing information, reporting to the public, preparing forest management plans, training and education, and inspecting forest operations. The French/Severn Forest was the first large FSC Certified public forest in Canada, valuing above all sustainable, transparent, and responsible forest management.
